Lyrical Devotions - Healing Rain Series - "Can't Get Away"

Healing Rain Series
His Relentless Love

"For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord."

"I am an arrow, I am a rocket
I am a river and nothing can stop it
Cause You are the target and You are the atmosphere
You are the ocean that keeps pulling me,

You're pulling me here

And I can't get away, can't get away
Can't get away, can't get away
I can't get away, can't get away

I keep running into You

I am a beggar, You are the table
I am so helpless, God You are so able
And when I get turned around You change my direction

You're so perfect,
I'm so broken,
here You come with arms wide open
Chasing after me down every road
You're always waiting there
And I can't get away, can't get away
Can't get away, can't get away
I can't get away, can't get away
I keep running into You
Even when I close my eyes, I can't help but see
There's no place that I can hide, You're such a part of me
I can't get away cause I keep running into You
"

Have you ever watched a child try to run from his own shadow? No matter how fast they run, no matter how zig zaggy, no matter how long they stride, they cannot get the stubborn thing to let go of their feet.

God is like that.

When we put our faith in the saving work of Christ on the cross, he moves right in to our heart (Gal. 2:20). He sets up house and has no intention of leaving. He is like a magnet in the core of our being, ever pulling us inward to Him.

We can't run from Him. We can't hide from Him. We can't get Him out.

Sometimes in the midst of pain, we want to run from Him, after all how could He allow something so terrible to happen to us. We try desperately to turn Him off and shut out all good thoughts toward Him. But try as we might, we just can't. He just keeps putting things in front of us that make us deal with Him... that make us see Him. In essence, we keep running right into Him.

Why does He do that? Because we need Him and He wants us.

Every year, I create a playlist centered around that year's theme. The first year I did this was 2008. It was a very painful time for me. I was in need of some major healing. God used a lot of songs to minister to me during that time. That's how the very first "year in review" playlist was born. I called it Healing Rain, and sorted it into five categories - His Relentless Love, His Healing Touch, His forgiveness, His Powerful Work, and His Wonderful Glory . I will share with you these songs and why they mean so much to me over the next several weeks.
